Casia

Casia (Bangkok, Thailand)

Today, I'm reviewing the new restaurant in the heart of Bangkok, Casia, located at Chatrium Grand Bangkok Hotel. Casia offers a delightful blend of Mediterranean and French cuisine, with options for both à la carte and course menus. I had the opportunity to try their 7-course menu priced at 3500++ baht, but they also offer a 9-course menu for 4900++ baht, excluding any additional cheese courses that can be added.

The restaurant is situated on the 7th floor of the hotel , overlooking a beautiful garden by the pool. The interior decoration has a cosy and warm ambiance that complements the Mediterranean dishes served. Despite being a fine-dining establishment, it manages to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, making it a great spot to enjoy views of Bangkok, including perfect view of the sunset. I recommend arriving early for your meal .

While the prices here are moderate to high for Bangkok Standard , considering that many of the ingredients are imported from France, I believe it is worth the cost for the quality of food and experience you receive. The restaurant is helmed by Chef Jerome Bondaz, who brings his Savoie background to the table, noticeable in the various dishes that introduce us to his root, combined with a touch of Spanish-Niche-Mediterranean flair. The flavours profile was carefully adjusted to suit the Thai palate after extensive taste testing with his team according to Chef Jerome. Chef Bondaz previously worked at Jaime by Jean Michel Lorain, so he certainly knows how to cater to Thai tastes.

The dishes at Casia are meticulously prepared, starting with the amuse-bouche, which offers a light, refreshing, taste that gradually builds up as you progress through the courses, ending with the main course. Each dish is complex in technique and features a diverse mix of flavours and textures. As for desserts, I was pleasantly surprised that they opted for a classic menu item like St. Honore, which stands out from the contemporary style of the rest of their dishes. Nonetheless, it was executed to perfection and thoroughly enjoyable.

Though the restaurant has recently opened, I salute the Casia team for their impeccable and warm service. Each dish was presented exceptionally well, and the explanations were both interesting and easy to understand, making it ideal for those who are new to cheeses universe.
